[A Very Late] Midweek Manicure // Matte Florals

So, I had typed up this post earlier and had somehow  managed to delete it instead of post it. Here we go again.

If you follow me on instagram (@mrspelkey) you would have already seen this mani in mid June. I painted them right before heading to the wedding of one of my oldest friends (whom I hadn’t seen in a long time). The wedding was held outside in a beautiful garden, at a beautiful venue, and so I thought a summer-y floral mani would fit the bill.

Also, please pay no attention to my cuticles in the following photos. They are JACKED UP. I know.

Matte Floral Nails

I used:

  • China Glaze Strong Adhesion Base Coat
  • Zoya Juanita
  • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Rosy Outlook
  • White, yellow and brown Stripe Rite polish
  • Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat

Peach and Pink Floral Nails

After a base coat and three coats of Juanita (it’s pretty sheer), I used Rosy Outlook to dot round-ish circles on my nails wherever I wanted a flower to be. I then used a white striper polish to paint rounded lines within the pink blobs (that’s basically what they were) to give the flowers more dimension. Overall I kept it pretty loose and abstract. I then put one dot each of the yellow and brown in the center of each flower. Two coats of the Big Matte Top Coat and I was finished.

Happy Weekend!

Midweek Manicure // I Heart Nail Art Pens

nude and green nail art

I picked up some Sally Hansen I Heart Nail Art pens a few weeks ago and I LOVE THEM. The water-based fine-tipped markers make nail art super easy. The best thing about them is that if you mess up, you can just wipe away your mistake with a dampened cotton bud and start again. When I was first testing them out, I decided I’d try a simple doodle, and ended up with these leafy stems on my nails that look like…Fronds?

I used:

  • Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Royal Blush
  • I Heart Nail Art Pens in Turquoise and White
  • Sally Hansen Big Matte Top Coat

leafy green nails

After a base coat of Royal Blush on all nails, I just began to draw out some stems and leaves on each nail, with not real attention to a specific pattern or symmetry. I drew everything out with the turquoise pen, then went over the top with the white, then back again with the turquoise, to create a shaded effect. Once dry, I topped everything with a coat of the Big Matte top coat (new favorite).

Happy Hump Day!

Midweek Manicure // Matte it Again

Well, the snow just keeps coming. That’s pretty much all I have to say about that.

Matte Half Moon Manicure

I’m really loving matte nails right now (again)!

I used:

  • Orly Nail Defense
  • Ulta Snow White
  • Essie Chinchilly
  • Essie Matte About You Top Coat

After using the Nail defense strengthening treatment as a base coat, I painted each nail with two coats of the Snow White. Then, leaving a sliver of white showing on each nail, I painted two coats of Chinchilly over that and achieved a sort-of half-moon design. Then I added two coats of the matte top coat and was finished!
