Midweek Manicure // Leopard Print Tips

Leopard Print Nails

These were fun. I love animal print on my nails. I’m sick this week and my brain is not working correctly so I can’t think of much more to write about this mani…

I used:

Leopard Print Step 1

After a clear base coat, I painted two coats of Essie Sand Tropez along the top half of my nails, as you see above. Then, I used the brush of the Jafra Mocha Cream polish to dab on small circle-ish dots in a random pattern.

Leopard Print Step 2

Before adding a topcoat, I used the Black Milani polish to outline the brown spots. Make sure you don’t outline the dots the whole way around. In order for the spots to resemble leopard print, you should only outline two or three ‘sides’ or each dot, and don’t let the lines connect all of the time. I also added small black dots here and there.

Leopard Print Step 3

Once dry, add a top coat and you’re done! meow.

Midweek Manicure // Yellow Lines

Spring is officially here, although you might not know it if you live in New England. Right now it feels like a balmy 32 degrees outside. But, I am defying the weather by wearing bright pink pants and colorful nail art. This week I’m sharing an easy-to-do  colorful yellow and white(ish) Spring mani:

Yellow Lines Nail Art

I used:

Milani Yellow and Essie Mashmallow

I started with two coats of marshmallow and then when that was dry just started painting lines with the yellow in various directions across my nails.

Yellow Lines Nail Art How-To

(this is the kind of nail design that will warrant a little bit of clean-up at the end. Just use a nail brush (or a small paintbrush from Michaels – that’s what I use), dip it in nail polish remover and run it it around the edges of your nail – anywhere you’ve gotten polish where it isn’t supposed to be!

And there you have it! I’d love to see some other early spring-inspired nail art. Feel free to share!

Midweek Manicure // Trying Gel

This week’s mani is a bit different. This weekend some girlfriends and I, on the way home from a Jafra party I had done, decided on a whim to get our nails done. Sometimes you just need to treat yourself! And, it was nice to think that someone else would file my nails and put on the polish and pamper me for a few minutes.

I instagramed this picture of the color I chose for my mani/pedi.

Essie Big Spender

Essie – Big Spender

I have the color on my toes and love it, it’s a nice bright purply-pink. Then when it came time for the mani, I got to thinkin’ that I might like to try a gel manicure. I’ve been thinking about investing in a gel manicure kit for myself, so I wanted to try it out, see how it looked, how long it lasted, etc. I went for the traditional french tips.

Gel French Tips Mani

Another not-so-great cell phone photo but whatevs.

All in all, I like the gel. It’s lasted a bit longer than my typical non-gel manicure but I have had a few *issues* including the fact that it kind of lifts and peels at the edges around my nail bed. I seem to have this problem a lot (as I did with the Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail strips…). Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? Maybe I just have weird fingernails. Also, it’s only been 5 days since the mani and I’ve started to have some chipping. It might be because I’ve been doing lots of dishes and laundry and things like that, but I thought it would last much longer.

So, I suppose this post is more of a call for input. If you’ve ever tried a gel manicure please leave me a comment and let me know what you thought. Was it worth the expense? How long did it last for you? Would you do it again? those kinds of things. I’m wondering if investing in my own gel kit would be worth the expense…Thanks :)

Midweek Manicure // Valentine’s Day Nails x2

This week I have two different Valentine’s Day themed mani’s to share.

First is this pink white and red mani that is a sort-of simple twist on a french tip manicure.

Valentine's Day French Tip Mani

Colors used:

V-Day Mani Steps

Next, I tried this cute heart-print mani:

Heart-Print Mani

I used Diva Bride as a basecoat for this mani too, and then used my dotting tool to paint on two dots close to eachother, then dragged the tool down to make a heart shape using Orly Swizzle Stick.

Hope everyone has a happy Valentine’s Day! What will you be wearing on your nails?

Midweek Manicure // Chanel Couture

My own take on the Chanel Haute Couture Fall 2012 mani. A little late to the party I guess, but better late than never!

Chanel Houte Couture 2012 Nail Art

I used:

Silver and Teal Mani

First I painted the silver on the whole nail, then painted on a coat of the teal just in the middle of the nail, so that the silver was still showing around the edges. THEN I decided I’d switch it up a bit, and painted a line of the silver across the tips of my nails and ended up with this:

Silver and Teal Chanel Mani

I’m not sure which look I like better! Thoughts?

Midweek Manicure // Plastic Wrap Nails

Hello! I feel like I’ve been lacking in the blog posting department but I’m working on it. It seems like the start of a new year gets busy really quickly. I will say that I’m doing good so far with my resolutions. I finished reading The Alchemist last week and have started on Why We Broke Up, which was recommended to me by a coworker. So, that whole “read more books” thing? Totally nailing it. I’ve also been doing pretty well with my diet. I downloaded the My Fitness Pal app onto my ipad and I’ve been counting calories like it’s my job.  It’s also helped me to find that my diet is pretty high in carbs and sugar, and that I don’t drink enough water. This was kind of news to me, because I’ve been really limiting my carb and sugar intake. Sneaky carbs. Sneaky sugars. Do any of you have the app? If you have it, or are thinking of downloading it – search me out and be my friend on there (kimberlina210)! I’m not sure what happens when you friend someone in the app, but it could be interesting…

In other news, I bring you: The Plastic Wrap Mani. Much less messy compared to the paint splattered nails, but with a somewhat similar effect. Kinda? It also reminds me of those crackle polishes.

Purple and Silver Plastic Wrap Nails

All you have to do is first cut out 10 small squares of plastic (or Saran) wrap and dab it onto your nail after the second color you’ve painted over your base color is still wet.

Plastic Wrap Nails Supplies

I started with a base coat of China Glaze Below Deck. I was going to then use Sally Hansen Nude Now as my second color (pictured above), but I decided to go with Essie No Place Like Chrome, which is a nice metallic silver, instead.

Plastic Wrap Mani Prep2

After your base color, paint on an even coat of your second contrasting color (and worry about clean-up at the end…)

Prepping Plastic Wrap for Mani

Crumple up a little square of your plastic wrap, then dab it onto the wet nail. Dab gently and sparingly as too much dabbin’ will remove too much polish. A little dab’ll do ya.

Early Midweek Manicure // Holiday Nails

Merry Christmas Eve! I thought I’d post an early “midweek manicure” to show you what I’m wearing on my nails for Christmas.

Essie She's Pampered and Leading Lady

I decided to go simple and glittery. I picked up Essie Leading Lady a few weeks ago and loved the color and sparkle. I painted it on top of a base coat of Essie She’s Pampered which is a nice bright red. What are you wearing on your nails for Christmas??

And feel free to check out some of the other Christmas-inspired nail art I’ve posted in the last few weeks:
