Hey There, Cupcake!

Hey There Cupcake Card

Today’s card features all kinds of fun techniques – heat embossing on the cupcake sentiment, dry embossing on the panel with cute little polka dots, masking to color the area behind the cupcake with distress inks, and partial die-cutting to create the circle window for my cupcake to sit in. Phew.

I colored the cupcake and stand with Copic markers, and then used a Wink of Stella pen to add some glitter to the cupcake frosting, and glossy accents to embellish the pink parts of the cupcake stand.

Hey There Cupcake

I can’t decide if this is a birthday card or just a cute note card. Either way, it’s making me hungry.

Sending Birthday Wishes to a Spring Chicken

Sending Birthday Wishes Card

I’ve been really excited to share this card because I am so happy with how it came out… and you can never have too many birthday cards on hand!

Spring Chicken Card

For this card, I partially die-cut a stitched circle into my top panel to create an opening to perch my cute little chicken on. I stamped then colored the chicken with Copic markers onto the card base, and then masked him off and used distress inks and a mini ink blending tool to create the bright yellow/orange background. I die-cut the Sending sentiment with the Simon Says Stamp Sending die, colored it with my Copics to make it a nice red-orange color, and glued it to my panel. I then also used several sentiments from the SSS Birthday Farm Animals stamp set to assemble the rest of the greeting at the bottom of the card. Then I mounted my panel on top of the colored chicken using foam tape to give it a bit of dimension.

I didn’t get the sentiments stamped quite evenly, but I think it kind of adds to the playfulness of the card.

Birthday Hogs ‘N Kisses

A few weeks ago my godson turned six. SIX! I’m not sure how that happened.

Birthday Hogs & Kisses

To go with his gift, I made him this cute little card, the design of which was inspired by this card I saw on Kristina Werner’s blog. I thought it would be so cute for a 6 year old. I can’t look at that cute little pig and not smile.

There’s a video tutorial for the card here, and suffice it to say, my stash of stamping supplies is still rather small, so I had to get creative with some of the techniques I used. For instance, after I colored the pig with a limited amount of copic markers I used rubber cement to mask him off, in order to fill in the circular background area behind him. It worked pretty well. The little piggy and hogs ‘n kisses sentiment are part of the Birthday Farm Animals set from Simon Says Stamp,  the stitched square die I used for the panel is also from Simon Says Stamp. I used the confetti stamp from the Birthday Tags stamp set from Lawn Fawn and some distress inks for the background. A little glossy accents to add some shine to the balloon finished off the card before I mounted it on a blue card base.

And this little guy had a very happy birthday (and I have a 360-something more days before I have to lament him getting older again)…

My Instagram Week

…well, a little bit more than a week’s worth of photos.  I took some vacation days from work for the first part of July, but my vacation officially started on Friday, June 27, at 5pm! I took the week off so that the hubby and I could go on a short trip to NYC to celebrate my birthday, but unbeknownst to me, the festivities started that Friday night with a surprise birthday party. I had absolutely no idea, it was great.

Shake Shack 8th Ave NYC

A few days later D and I headed to NYC. After getting off the train at Grand Central Station, our first stop was Shake Shack on 8th Ave.

Central Park

We walked off the burgers and fries by hoofing it up to Central Park. Then we hopped on a bike and had a tour around the whole area.

At the Today Show

The next morning we got up bright an early to stake out a spot on the Today Show plaza…

Martha Stewart

And then…MARTHA STEWART! We ended up standing right behind where she was doing a segment. She passed out cupcakes afterward. We made eye contact. It was magical.

NYC from the Top of the RockAn afternoon trip to the Top of the Rock. Beautiful views of the NYC skyline.

Our last day included a trip to the museum on the site of the African Burial Ground. After an earlier trip to the 9/11 Memorial, it was a very humbling day, indeed.
