2013 Resolutions

Inspired by this blog post, I’ve made a list of my goals for the upcoming year using the word resolution itself. It’s easier that way.

New Years Champagne

This year I resolve to:

Read more novels.

Eat more salad! I’ve already had two salads in the last two days, so that one is off to a good start I suppose.

Save more and shop less. It’s time to start really putting money away to pay for the wedding. The daily urge to internet shop will have to take a back seat for a while.

Organize, organize, organize. Time to whip my craft corner (and many other corners in the house) into shape, and keep them that way.

Let go of my cell phone every once in a while.

Unite my body and my brain. That U one was a tuffy. Essentially the idea is that I have all this knowledge in my head about eating right and putting good stuff into my body, but I don’t always do what I’m supposed to. Need to work on that. And, you know, that whole positive body image thing…

Teach myself how to use my dslr camera so that I can start uploading some really nice photos on the blog :)

Invest in some ‘me’ time (see here).

Offer help to those who need it.

Notice (and be thankful for) beauty in the small and simple things that surround me every day. Enough of this rushing through life stuff!

Do you have any resolutions this year? Let me know in the comments!

A MixedMethod Year in Review

It’s been almost a year since I started this blog which seems really unbelievable. I created MixedMethod to serve as a creative outlet for me, but it’s become so much more than that. Keeping a blog has encouraged me to become even more creative in my life, to see beauty in random, everyday objects, and to pursue my interests in all kinds of things – from nail art to photography to cooking, decorating, crafting and everything in between.

Through this blog I’ve also been able to share so much of my creative ideas with people from all over the world. People from 143 countries have visited my blog! Really cool. And, I’ve gotten great feedback from people and have even made a few blog-world friends. I love reading and responding to comments and am so thankful for for all of the visitors who stop by my blog each day and who share their thoughts and love of creativity with me.

As 2012 comes to an end, I thought it would be oh-so-apropos to share some of this year’s most popular posts. We have to start with my How to Clean your Makeup Brushes DIY.

Clean Makeup Brushes

This DIY was by far the most popular one I’ve ever posted on the blog. Simple and practical, it reminds me that I really need to deep-clean my brushes this week…

My most popular nail art post was my paint splattered nails tutorial.

Paint Splatter Mani

Next in our top 5 (I’m making it a top 5, did you know that?) is my Pinterest-inspired project for making wall art using scrapbook paper. The project was appropriately titled “DIY Scrapbook Paper Wall Art.”

The most popular of my recipe posts were these Buffalo Turkey Lettuce Wraps:

(Thank you to The Girl Who Ate Everything for the recipe!)

Annnnnnd…the #5 most popular post on MixedMethod in 2012 was one of my first DIY projects: Snow Day Wall Art.

Herringbone Tape Pattern on Canvas

Looking at that herringbone pattern makes me want to paint another canvas the same way.

There you have it, a little 2012 year in blogging review. Hope you enjoyed! Lots more to come in 2013!!

DIY, Inspiration

Inspiration Sunday // DIYs for a new year

It’s almost 2013! Big plans for next year – working harder at losing weight and eating right, making sure I don’t over-extend myself (i.e. learning its OK to say ‘no’), annnnd… I’ll be getting married! Lots to do in that department. But first, here are some fun DIY’s. Not sure if D and I will be going anywhere to celebrate, but I’ll be having such a fancy New Years Eve party in my head at least…
