Floral Happy Birthday Card

It’s amazing how the weather inΒ  New England can fluctuate so much from day to day. Two days ago I was sweating to death in my not-air-conditioned house and today I’m wishing I wore a sweater and looking forward to hot soup for dinner! Though some of my flowers and veggies are doing really well, this fluctuating weather seems to have also taken a toll on my garden this year. So for now I’ll have to settle for lots of floral cards in bright colors to get me by!

I created this one by stamping several floral images from the SSS Spring Flowers stamp set onto a watercolor paper panel. I used VersaMark ink and white embossing powder to stamp and then emboss the images. Over all of that, I painted two layers of watercolor washes in pink and purple-toned shades.

The die-cut sentiment comes from the Painted Happy Birthday die. The rest of the sentiment was stamped on black paper and heat embossed in white, then mounted to the front of the panel with some foam tape.

You can just barely see it in the photos, but I also added a bit of string just behind the sentiment for added interest. I wrapped some string around my fingers in a circle, then placed it on the panel, pulling at it here and there to create a less perfect look. Some light pink sequins scattered around the panel finished the whole thing off!

I’ve also entered this card into the current Simon Says Stamp Flickr challenge #76!
