A Recent Walk with Radar

The weather has certainly improved over the last week or so here in the northeast. Weather with highs in the upper 60s through the middle of the week, although today is pretty dreary…But I’ll take it. Since it’s been a lot nicer, I’ve been trying to get out of the house more often on longer walks with the dog. Lately I’ve been bringing my camera along, too.

The road

I can’t wait until the rest of the snow melts and everything gets green again. The pictures will be a little less brown then, which will be a nice change, don’t you think?

We live in a right-to-farm community, so there are lots of horses and cows (and other animals) nearby. I always ask Radar if he wants to walk down to the “horses” and he gets very excited. I’m not sure how much the horses enjoy his company, but I like being able to photograph them from time to time, and Radar has learned a new word, so it’s a win for us. Depending on the length of the walk, we pass at least two different stables. There are also some Scottish Highland cattle a few miles from our house, but I haven’t made it that far on a walk yet. Hopefully some photos of those guys soon – before they lose their shaggy winter coats! I’ve seen some Belgian draft horses near there too, but they’re a bit more elusive…

Wood Pecker

And if you look closely, you’ll see the woodpecker who almost flew away before I could snap his picture.

I’m still getting used to my camera and lenses. I’m finding that just getting outside and taking photos of whatever I find interesting really helps. And generally photographs of nature come out pretty nicely, anyway, so that helps too! I also found a free photo-editing site called BeFunky and I’ve been playing around there, in lieu of photoshop (I had been using picmonkey, but they’re not so free anymore [sadface]). I still have lots to learn, but it’s a start!
