So we have this kind of drab mantle that I’m trying desperately to spruce up. Ideally, I want to switch it up with the seasons, and since it is a focal point in our living room, it would be a great place to put decorations for different holidays. All this means is that it was time for Kim to take a trip to the thrift store. I picked up a bunch of clear glass vases/bottles/containers of all different shapes and sizes that I thought were interesting. Then, I spray painted them white (I used Valspar gloss white spray paint).
I meant to take a picture of the tall-and-already-white vase before I spray painted it. Sorry about that. Just imagine that it used to be clear glass. It took a few coats for the rose-glass vase to not look rose-white…
Also, a word to the wise: don’t put your camera downwind from the spraypaint spray. White specks all over my camera. Yup.
Once they dried, I brought them in and arranged them on the mantle. I also brought in some flowers to spruce them up a bit. There’s still a lot I want to do, since it’s a work in progress, but here’s how it’s starting to shape up:
What do you think? I’d say so far so good. The picture of Radar is actually from one of my very first posts on this blog! And I’ll share a how-to on the silver and white painted lace tiles later in the week.
I think it would also be great to paint the inside of the vases with some fun and bright acrylic paint. Of course then they wouldn’t be able to hold water, but they’d be great for silk flowers or something like that. I think I might try that with the next few vases I’m planning to paint!
